Under the Sharp Lens:
Human Rights Monitoring and Documentation in Mining-Affected Communities

In building a culture of human rights, the role of monitoring and documentation (M&D) cannot be overemphasized. The promotion and defense of human rights depend to a great part on accurate, credible and timely data that can only come from the constant monitoring and documentation activities of human rights defenders. In communities affected by large-scale mining operations, M&D can be a capacitating tool for impoverished and marginalized sectors in claiming and defending basic rights and freedoms.

This two-part publication discusses the important role of M&D in the promotion and protection of human rights (Book I) and reports on M&D efforts in communities threatened by large-scale mining activities (Book II).

Copies are available at PhilRights office for only Php 250.
